Warm Ups

2 x 5 min warm ups
2 x 10 min warm ups

Using Thomas Eakins as study material.  I learned that studying these large scenes in a short amount of time can prove to be difficult, and create a flurry or possibly overwhelm me.  I think it may be a better idea to crop out a section which I could realistically study within the short amount of time.  There was a ton of challenge of getting everything down, and not enough time trying to figure out the way things were working. A good thing to keep in mind for the future, so that I can get more out of these exercises.

Warm Ups, and Sci Fi City

5, 15, 20 min exercises.
It's crazy how your mood can affect your concentration, which can affect the efficiency of these.  Needless to say, I wasn't in the best of moods today, I also think that affected mindsets can also alter how much you retain from studies like these.  Instead of concentration on what you are doing, there's other garble floating around the dome.  So if you ever catch yourself, it may be worth it to take a break and try to find a way to clear your head.  There isn't a real point in just going through the motions.  Copying a piece is one thing, but studying is another.

Some more warmups and a Sci Fi scenery.  I found out that this method isn't great to work with.  I am going to have to develop some techniques to handle this better and gain more control. Live and learn.

Saul - Zanasphaer

Here is a version of Saul.  I covered him up a bit much for jungle fatigues, but Kevlar says safety first!

Doo Doo doodles!

So lately I have been on and off in my sketchbook.  I have been trying to kick my butt more into drawing, meanwhile I have been trying to grasp more concepts of painting.  Sketch jams and things help since I havent been giving my fartbook nearly as much love as I used to.  However finding a new drawing spot to snipe people, and making it more of a priority to explore more things on paper really feels like a healthy start to getting better.  It doesn't feel as forced and fully of pressure, like my previous mentality for the past couple years.  I am having fun in the book again, and I believe that to be a gigantic part of what all this should be about.

Anywho enough of the babble, here is some stuff I have been jamming out to lately, enjoy!

Uhhh

drawling from Concept Club last night. I I was going to work on this much more, but I think I'll just move on for now.  Concept Club was a really nice kick in the butt yesterday and has helped me start thinking about "what I'm drawing and why" again.  So thanks for the insightful convo's urrybody!

I can no longer expect to have a great piece, or a piece I am happy with every time.  The important thing is learning something from the pieces and using that knowledge in the next piece.  I think expectations can be a very deadly thing if you let them control your art the majority of the time.  So something that I will be trying to keep in mind is to just simplify if I don't understand something, and try to learn from it.  If I worry about what other people think, or how far away from my goals I am, my progress will slow.

Elena

This is a fanart of my buddy Reggie's character from his webcomic David-PR

So this is a re-occuring character Elena I created in college. She is a magic based character that makes it her life journey to learn magic from the camps and cultures she travels to. She eventually dabbles in some very dark magic which eventually begins to corrupt her. This is just a quick sketch of her beginning to experience some of this darkness.

Yes yes..another hooded char...no clue what my fascination with that is other than adding a level of mystery to characters. In all fairness though, she was originally designed with a hood

Also while you are surfing the interwebs, go check out my buddy DarkHalo's latest album: A Million Drops.  Be warned, this is a highly addictive album and you will find yourself craving to hear the sweet ambiance of this terrific release.  Go check it out on soundcloud, or download it.  Also if you'd like to read more about it, go peep my friend Irene's great article on it.
